The Forge
Items in this room:
Gold Coins: 4 | Keys: 1 | Potions: 1 | Gems: 0
Immediately to your right is a pot containing some Gold Coins. You can also use Odin Vision to spot a hidden chest off to the right, and you can open this to find a Blue Potion. When facing the entrance door, there are tapestries hanging to the left and right. Burn the one on the left, and then pluck the Small Key from the wall behind where the tapestry was. Off to the right of the key is a large dwarf statue against the wall. Shoot the crate just to the left for some Gold Coins. Turn right and make your way forward between the giant hole in the wall and the giant hole in the floor. As you pass the wall hole, look left into the shadows between two pillars to spot a small green pot that has some Gold Coins.
If you use Odin Vision anywhere on this floor, you can spot an item highlight up near the ceiling. There's no way to reach it, so we'll have to bring it to us. There's a fun contraption just past the giant hole in the floor that's made up of a lever, three turny wheels, and a pipe with a large opening. Much like in The Cage, shooting fire into this pipe will send it traveling through the pipe and out the other end. If you fire into it now, it will emerge from a pipe near the ceiling and slam into the net full of rubble where the item highlight is. Nothing happens, which must mean that it's puzzle time.
The wheel on the right can be turned to rotate the exit pipe we just shot the fireball through. Turn the wheel until the pipe is parallel with the net and facing the pipe above you. If you test this out, the fireball will travel above the next pipe. Move the nearby lever forward to raise that pipe. Now rotate the middle wheel until the pipe in the back is facing to the right. Firing into the pipe now should send the fireball left out of the pipe near the net, into the pipe across the way, then to the right out of the back pipe where it will collide with the side of another pipe. Looks like we have more work to do.
The wall past the contraption has a prominent Runic Plate on it, but it does not seem to be functioning. Might have something to do with the open gear box below it with the missing gear. Turn to the right and head toward the large hole in the floor. When you get close enough to the edge, a Large Spider will emerge to accost you. Shoot it twice with your Wand to make it retreat. On one of the pieces of rubble on the ground at the edge of the hole is an Oil Can that you will need to pick up. A bit to the left is a minecart with another destructible barrel in it. Make sure you're a few steps back and then shoot the barrel to blow it up. Inside the now empty minecart is the missing Gear.
Head over to the gearbox and insert the Gear to complete the mechanism. Shoot the Runic Plate and a nearby elevator will lower. Stand on the new platform to be whisked up to the next tier. Up on this new level, you can make use of Odin Vision to spot a hidden chest containing Gold Coins near the lava vat. Approach the wheel mechanism up here. Pull the lever towards you. This doesn't always work the first time, so move it back to the original position and then back to you again. What should happen is the pipe above the lava lowers. This pipe is controlled by the wheel on the right, but it's already facing the correct direction so leave it alone.
The wheel on the left appears to be stuck, and there's some corrosion around the joint. Pour the Oil Can over the discolored area just behind the wheel to clear it out. Now turn the wheel to adjust the last pipe, visible in the back left of your field of view. The opening should end up pointing toward the pipe behind you. Once the two pipes are adjusted, head back to the elevator platform to return to the bottom floor. Head over to the wheels and shoot some fire into the pipe. The fireball should travel through the four corner pipes, out the center pipe, and smash into a destructible portion of the rubble within the net. This will cause a large dwarf statue attached to a chain to drop into the pit. If the fireball did not move in this way, you'll have to adjust some of the wheels or levers. I have a video here for reference:
That just about does it with this room for now. You may be itching to cross that vat of lava and explore the third tier, but we'll save that for later. The reasons why will become clear when we return. For now, make your way onto the fallen pillar that lays across the pit. Grab onto the chain and use it to lower yourself down to the bottom of the pit. This will conclude the first foray into The Forge.
